Each day 10,000 humans are born in the U.S. - and each day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. As long as these birth rates exist, there will never be enough homes for all the animals. As a result, every year 4 to 6 million animals are euthanized because there are no homes for them. What can you do to stop the suffering? Spay and neuter your pet! Ganados del Valle in Los Ojos
Ganados del Valle -- Flocks of the Valley -- was founded in 1983 as a non-profit organization serving rural communities in Rio Arriba County in north central New Mexico. It was granted 501(c)(3) tax exempt status in 1985. Nearly 150 local residents are active members of the organization, while another 100 New Mexico residents are supporters. The Ganados del Valle offices are located in the village of Los Ojos. Mission of Ganados del Valle: The rural mountain communities served by Ganados del Valle have small populations steeped in Hispanic and Native American traditions and cultures that are firmly linked to the land and its history. These traditions are reflected in the agricultural economy of the area, which includes cattle ranching, farming, sheep raising for the production of wool and meat, and forestry and wood products. The Ganados del Valle mission for the past 16 years has been to demonstrate how these land-based rural cultures can secure, use, and protect their ancestral land and water by developing sustainable economies and environments that strengthen the culture. It does this by helping residents form cooperative enterprises that both create jobs and preserve the region's cultural identity. Ganados' definition of sustainability is that pastoral cultures and environments depend on each other; one cannot survive without the other. To this end, Ganados del Valle programs focus on three main areas: Ganados Business Development Programs, Ganados College Program, Ganados Agricultural Development Support Programs.

Valle Vidal
This is an important environmental site. The Valle Vidal is a lush mountain basin located in the heart of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, in northern New Mexico. Donated to the American People in 1982, the Valle Vidal is managed by the Carson National Forest primarily for it's wildlife, as well as it's outstanding scenic and recreational opportunities. The Valle Vidal is a veritable Rocky Mountain paradise, with abundant populations of Rocky Mountain wildlife, including mule deer, black bear, mountain lion, bald eagles, and native Rio Grande cutthroat trout. In addition, the vast alpine meadows of the Valle Vidal provide critical habitat for the largest herd of elk in New Mexico. Coalbed methane (CBM) development is having devastating effects in both the San Juan and Raton Basins of New Mexico and Colorado, and other rural communities throughout the West. Under current Administration guidelines, CBM producers are not held liable for any damage to the environment, or to public health and safety. CBM wells are connected by an extensive “spider-web” of roads and infrastructure that destroys the scenic beauty of an area, fragments rangeland habitat, displaces local wildlife populations. The Carson National Forest is currently in the early stages of assessments and studies that will lease 40,000 acres of the magnificent Valle Vidal for coalbed methane development. The area proposed for drilling is the prime winter habitat for New Mexico's largest herd of elk. CBM development will destroy the Valle's fragile alpine grasslands, and displace New Mexico's prize elk herd. The area will lose its scenic value and recreational opportunities. If this is allowed to happen, one of the premier wildlife viewing destinations in the world will be become an industrial park
