Website
Tara Lumpkin, PhD, is a medical and environmental anthropologist, who has worked and lived with people from other cultures in Africa, Asia, Central America, South America, and North America for over twenty-five years. This has allowed her to learn about the many ways that people heal and become well. Tara spent over a year in Namibia, Africa, working with traditional healers and community members under the auspices of the Namibian Ministry of Health and the United Nations Children's Fund. During this time, she became particularly interested in the relationship between healing, humans, animals, and the environment. In addition, she has studied nature awareness, outdoor survival skills, nature philosophy, and healing with Tom Brown, Jr., founder of the Tracker School. Later she attended courses in shamanism at the Foundation for Shamanic Studies. Tara Lumpkin has worked in post-genocide Rwanda for the United States Agency for International Development aiding in the creation of an ethno-justice system. She then returned to Rwanda to work with genocide orphans on a photography project to help the children cope with the trauma they had experienced. The children's photographs have been exhibited worldwide. Currently she is the president of Perception, a non-profit with numerous global projects.
