Alice Rynear makes amazing silk scarves. Colorful, beautiful, light. Vintage Kimono Silk Scarves. Old and historic kimonos from Japan are recycled and given new life in one-of-a-kind silk scarves. Lovely old asian designs are pieced together with new silks that I've hand-dyed. Each scarf is reversible with contrasting patterns on each side. I strive in this new work to bring the essence of Wabi Sabi into my creations by re-using fabrics that would otherwise be unappreciated and discarded. Revering the fabrics for their age, their history and their weathered qualities, cracks and flaws, gives each scarf an aesthetic quality of timeless beauty. That's Wabi Sabi. It is the elegance of restraint, where less is more, There are entrepreneuer ladies in Japan who search kimono markets for material. They carefully hand-pick the kimonos apart and sell the fabric. I'm pleased to purchase fabric from them and support their lives.
