Babelshack is a band that was formed by Barnaby Hazen in 2003. Their “2005 EP,” and full length release “Return of the Bottom Feeder” were both well reviewed, yet only hinted at what would become their mesmerizing live sound. With Babelshack's new rhythm section, drummer Troy Whitford and bassist Ari Newkirk, the band has developed a musical experience mixing inescapable grooves appealing to “jam band” oriented audiences, with Hazen's visceral songwriting which continues to capture the ears of indie and punk music fans as well. They play regularly in Santa Fe and in their hometown, Taos. They opened twice for Billy Bob Thornton’s band, the Boxmasters. Recent shows include their cd release party at the Seco Pearl, and the music festival, Kannaroo. They will tour to support their deliberately raw live EP, "Alive in Jack's Basement," starting fall of 2009.
