Mirabai Starr
Mirabai Starr is the critically-acclaimed author of two revolutionary new translations of sixteenth century mystical classics: "Dark Night of the Soul" by St. John of the Cross and "The Interior Castle" by St. Teresa of Avila. Mirabai Starr writes literary essays, fiction, and contemporary translations of sacred literature. She has received critical acclaim for her new translation of Dark Night of the Soul , by sixteenth century Spanish mystic, John of the Cross, published by Riverhead, the spiritual literary imprint of Penguin-Putnam in February 2002 and her translation of The Interior Castle, by Teresa of Avila, Putnam, June 2003. Published in The Sun, The Taos Review and numerous independent publications, Mirabai Starr is frequently the invited guest for literary readings and lectures throughout New Mexico. She teaches a yearly writing workshop called The Alchemy of Voice, designed to help writers use personal hardship as a catalyst for creative growth. Mirabai Starr is an adjunct professor of philosophy and religious studies, and at the University of New Mexico and has studied a wide variety of religious traditions, including Hinduism, Judaism, Buddhism, and Christianity. In addition to translations, Starr is a published writer of fiction and essays.
