Jim Stoner, originally from the U.K., set up Blue Magic Forge after a career in the design, manufacture and construction of stages and sets. Because of his love for welding and art, he turned his attention to forging. “Distressing, texturing and forging steel is something that appeals to me. Adding Hammer blows that catch the light, gives the pieces much depth and radiance," says Jim. The pieces created at Blue Magic Forge are made using traditional blacksmithing techniques and welding. Hot, shaped steel with bends and blows, gives the pieces their own character. “I love the way steel is so hard, but when heated becomes so malleable only to return to hard again when it cools." "Stock steel to me is very masculine. Adding a gentle curve or twist brings out the feminine, softening and enhancing the piece. Making something that will last for generations is very satisfying,“ he says. He now resides in Arroyo Seco N.M. where he runs his own artist blacksmith shop.
