Best known for his images of the famous shrine, El Santuario de Chimayo, Charles Sargent offers a wide variety of images from the American Southwest. Sargent of Cordova, New Mexico, is one of the most well-respected photographers in northern New Mexico. He is perhaps best known for his images of El Santuario de Chimayo, where he is the official shrine photographer. Lesser known, but equally compelling, are his images of the landscapes of northern New Mexico and southern Colorado and his flower images. Charles, or "Sarge" as he is known to his neighbors and friends, was bitten by the camera bug early, immediately after winning his first camera by selling magazines while a junior high school student. He continued to pursue photography as a hobby while serving in the Marine Corp and for several years after settling down and raising his family in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo mountains.
