Southwestern paintings are the specialty of Elise Covlin. The artist is renown for her Southwestern style of furniture and is currently focusing on pleine air paintings including: churches of the southwest, landscapes of the Rio Grande Gorge, the Rocky Mountains, and the New Mexican village scenes. Elise Colvin paints horses, sheep, cattle, and cats; wild sage and garden flowers including tiger lilies, sunflowers, and iris. She occasionally incorporates charcoal, gouache, and inks into her watercolors. During winter months she does studio work with floral still lifes and figure drawing models. Her works have been compared to Matisse, Gauguin, Remington, and her horses are reminiscent of the cave paintings of Lascaux. Elise Colvin also creates works in clay, composes lyrical paper cuts, and jewel like acrylic paintings. As series are completed, new works will be featured on this website.
