Under the blue skies of this northern New Mexico community, a rich and colorful history of a multi-cultural people was formed. La Hacienda de Los Martinez (Marinez Hacienda), built in 1804 was an important trading center at the northern boundary of the Spanish Empire. Ernest L. Blumenschein, of the famous Taos Society of Artists, and his family, lived in a home purchased in 1919, within walls dating to an early Taos fortification of 1797.
